1.Bundesliga 2022 - 23 Fixtures

Only a couple of weeks are left before the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign gets underway from 5th August 2022. FC Bayern München will begin the season as the defending champions once again after clinching its 10th consecutive league-title.

However, Bayern might encounter a more intense title-race especially after losing its star-striker Robert Lewandowski to FC Barcelona after 8 hugely successful years. The Bavarians had earlier captured the signature of Sadio Mané from Liverpool and added centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus.

Borussia Dortmund has been quite active in the off-season and should provide a strong challenge for the Bundesliga title. So far, the club has signed Karim Adeyemi, Nico Schlotterbeck, Salih Özcan and Niklas Süle. It also bought Sébastien Haller from Ajax but the French striker is sidelined indefinitely after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig may be the outsiders for the title-race but are going to be among the hot favourites for the top-4 positions. 1.FC Union Berlin, SC Freiburg and 1.FC Köln all enjoyed excellent campaigns last time around while TSG Hoffenheim, VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia M’gladbach will be hoping for better fortunes.

Meanwhile, two of the biggest clubs in Germany, FC Schalke 04 and SV Werder Bremen will return to the top-flight as the newly-promoted teams. While the pair has a stiff challenge ahead to stay in the division, VfB Stuttgart, Hertha Berlin, VfL Bochum and FC Augsburg are all likely to be in the relegation-dogfight.

Now we take a look at the fixture-list for the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign and focus on the notable clashes from Matchday 1 through Matchday 34.

Matchday 1

The season kicks off with a Friday night fixture as Eintracht Frankfurt welcome the champions Bayern München to the Deutsche Bank Arena. Eintracht finished outside the top-half of the Bundesliga last season but were able to clinch the UEFA Europa League which ended its 42 year wait for a major trophy.

Saturday features a host of exciting clashes such as the Berlin Derby as 1.FC Union Berlin host Hertha BSC at Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Union finished the 2021/22 campaign in 5th position while Hertha had to pull off a miracle in the closing weeks before winning the promotion-relegation playoffs.

The evening fixture is arguably the best match of the week as Borussia Dortmund starts its campaign at home to Bayer Leverkusen in a match between two sides which finished the previous season in 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively. Another goal-fest could be on the cards as these sides scored 14 times in the 2 matches between them last season.

On Sunday, 1.FC Köln will face Schalke 04 at RheinEnergieStadion. Köln has not lost any of its past 5 meetings with Schalke which include 3 wins in the previous 3 league-matches between the two sides.
